Vegetarian Times studies show that 7.3 million Americans are vegetarians, and an additional 22.8 million follow a vegetarian-inclined diet (Vegetarianism in America). This number is increasing rapidly since this study was shown one year ago. Vegetarianism to some kids is becoming the "cool" thing to do. It is kind of an image thing that they uphold. The whole hippie theme. The "save the planet, and care for the world" deal has become really popular this year especially. We see signs and slogans about "going green" everywhere now. Vegetarianism has become very well known throughout the years. But why hasn't the rest of the world joined in? Maybe it's because they aren't educated on it. Or because they like the taste of meat too much to give it up. All I know is that people need to wake up and realize what they are doing to they're bodies.
Another explanation for people not to be vegetarian is that they don't know what exactly to eat. I know one of the main questions I have been asked throughout my experience is "What do you eat?!" Some people think that being a vegetarian means that you eat strictly vegetables. That is not the case at all. You can eat everything and anything..except meat. Think about it. Anything but steak, ham, bacon, chicken, fish, bologna, hamburger patties. You all know what meat is.
There are so many tasty things that replace the meat you would normally eat. Just look at the morning star or boca products. The food companies have ready food already made, just stick it in the oven. Yes, you do have to eat vegetables. But you would have to normally eat vegetables if you are a meat eater too. Isn't that all part of being healthy though?
Some may say that it is not satisfying to be a vegetarian when you have already had meat all of your life. For me, this is not true. With the products made, you can't even taste the difference.
Why go veg? "You'll ward off diseases, keep your weight down, live longer, build strong bones, help reduce pollution, spare animals, and you'll have more energy (Why Go Veg)." So I ask you, why not?
